Aislu Shaikenova
About
- Mrs. Shaikenova is a retired justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan. She has 36 years’ experience in court and law enforcement agencies: 18 years as a judge and 18 years at the prosecutor’s office. After eight years on the Supreme Court’s civil law panel, she retired honorably in 2013. During her time at the Supreme Court, she lectured on issues of civil law and procedure for serving judges at the Institute of Justice at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prior to joining SHEL, Aislu Shaikenova had actively worked as counsel at AEQUITAS’ Dispute Resolution practice for seven years.
- Mrs. Shaikenova has authored numerous Supreme Court’s normative resolutions (binding on lower courts) on compensation for personal injury, intellectual property, court fees and various other civil and procedural matters.
- In her last few years at the Supreme Court, she led a team that reviewed disputes concerning the protection of property rights; the application of banking, antitrust, and insurance law; and intellectual property law.
- Between 1995 and 2005, she headed the civil law panel of the Aktobe Oblast Court. She initiated and personally led the drafting of some twenty practical recommendations on the consideration of various categories of civil case by courts of first instance.
- Between 1977 and 1995, she worked at the prosecutor’s office, and three last years of this period – as the Deputy Prosecutor for the City of Aktobe. Mrs. Shaikenova is the author of numerous publications on civil law and civil procedure. She has also co-authored commentaries on Kazakhstan’s Civil Code and Civil Procedure Code, as well as several scholarly works on various categories of civil cases, published by the Supreme Court.
